  • 2024-Sep-03

The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held an online lecture, titled "Education and Technology in Contemporary Islamic World", presented by Hanief Saha Ghafur, Chairman of Education at Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (CBNU), within the Council's series of lectures.

During the lecture, Ghafur highlighted that in the 21st century, illiteracy is no longer solely defined by the inability to read and write; but now includes the loss of knowledge and the reluctance to gain new skills.

He stressed the significance of lifelong learning, underlining the need to continuously expand on existing knowledge. Success in education, he emphasised, depends on a learner who is both intelligent and capable, in order to apply his learning effectively to secure his future, with a particular emphasis on developing skills and acquiring new abilities.

He also touched on the profound impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the economy and industry, noting that this revolution has brought advanced technologies like digital and biological innovations. These advancements are paving the way for the creation of new materials, 200 times stronger than iron, through nanotechnology. He further mentioned that 65% of future jobs have yet to be created, making it essential to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving communication and information technologies that will permeate all sectors.

Furthermore, he stressed that character development is crucial for achieving success in society, calling for the establishment of outstanding universities to foster research and innovation.

TWMCC is an international non-governmental organisation that functions as a think tank. It supports Muslim community organisations and associations by helping them improve their operations, collaborate effectively, and adopt innovative approaches.
