The World Muslim Communities Council organized a virtual lecture as part of its Ramadan Lecture Series titled “Ramadan: A Month of Tranquility and Closeness.” The lecture was delivered by Sheikh Noureddine Taouil, President of the General Assembly of Muslims in Belgium, who spoke about the virtues of the holy month of Ramadan. He stated that Ramadan is one of the greatest opportunities for change in all aspects of life and a chance to strengthen one’s relationship with God and with others, as it provides a spiritually conducive atmosphere and divine preparation for worship.
He emphasized the significance of the blessed month, noting that Ramadan is an opportunity for everyone to pursue change and become among the righteous and God-conscious. It is also a chance to strengthen human relationships.
He stressed the importance of reflecting one’s strong relationship with God in Ramadan through improving relationships with others, explaining that a true believer who maintains a strong bond with the Lord of the Worlds will strive to strengthen his or her ties with people.
He added that we should not miss the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan, given the abundance of acts of worship and sources of goodness it offers, and because the devils are chained during this month.
Sheikh Noureddine Taouil also pointed out that Ramadan includes Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree), which is better than a thousand months. He noted that if we were to reflect upon it with awareness and understanding, we would hasten toward good deeds and abandon worldly desires.
He offered several pieces of advice to those fasting, stating that Muslims should avoid sins and wrongdoing during Ramadan and throughout the rest of the year, beginning with this blessed month.
He concluded by affirming that Ramadan is an opportunity for self-accountability and encouraging oneself toward goodness.
True change begins with self-examination and correcting one’s mistakes, allowing the believer to rise to higher levels of spiritual excellence and strengthen his or her relationship with God.
