TWMCC Holds “From Arafah to Eid” Online Lecture

The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) organised an online lecture titled “From Arafah to Eid”, delivered by Sheikh Sa’dullah Khan, CEO of Islamia College – South Africa. The lecture explored key spiritual and ritual dimensions of the Hajj pilgrimage, beginning with the standing at Mount Arafah on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, and concluding with the blessed Eid Al-Adha.

Sheikh Sa’dullah explained that Eid Al-Adha falls on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, followed by the Days of Tashreeq — the 11th, 12th, and 13th of the same month.

He noted that these blessed days are mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, in the verse: “And remember Allah during ˹these˺ appointed days” — referring to these specific days of Hajj.

He emphasised that Eid Al-Adha, along with the three days that follow, are known as the Days of Sacrifice (Qurbāni days).

These are the days of offering, commemorating the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). The act of sacrifice serves as a powerful reminder of the great sacrifice and complete obedience to Allah demonstrated by Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail (peace be upon them).

Sheikh Sa’dullah highlighted that Eid is a time to magnify Allah publicly in congregation, especially through the recitation of Takbeer following the Eid prayer.

In return, Allah bestows abundant blessings, mercy, and gifts upon the Muslim community during these noble days.

He added that Eid is a disciplined joy, marked by a spirit of generosity, compassion, and communal solidarity, demonstrated through the distribution of sacrificial meat to the poor, the needy, relatives, and neighbours — fostering social harmony and mutual care.

Sheikh Sa’dullah Khan concluded with the profound verse from Surat Al-Hajj, which states that neither the flesh nor the blood of the sacrifice reaches Allah, but what reaches Him is the piety of His servants.

Thus, the act of sacrifice is not merely the slaughter of an animal, but rather a spiritual offering of the self, a symbolic struggle for truth, patience through trials, and a pursuit of higher awareness beyond materialism and worldly distractions.
