TWMCC Participates in the Global Tolerance and Human Fraternity Conference
- 2025-Feb-13
Under the patronage of HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, the Global Tolerance and Human Fraternity Conference was inaugurated, where HE Dr Mohamed Bechari, Secretary-General of the World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC), stressed that the UAE has become a global model in consolidating the values of peace and tolerance, mentioning a number of pioneering international initiatives, most notably the Human Fraternity Document, signed by His Holiness Pope Francis of the Catholic Church, and His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Dr Ahmed el-Tayyeb, which constituted a historic turning point in promoting interfaith dialogue and consolidating peaceful coexistence.
During his speech at the conference, Dr Bechari stressed the importance of transforming the values of tolerance from mere slogans to a national legislative system that ensures respect for religious sentiment, and enhances openness to pluralism, while being compatible with modernity and development, which contributes to building a balanced society that respects diversity and promotes comprehensive citizenship.
He also reviewed the role of the TWMCC in promoting convergence between intellectual systems within Muslim societies, by updating religious discourse with concepts of tolerance, peace and love, through educational and training initiatives targeting religious and community leaders to spread the culture of tolerance.
Dr Bechari called for intensifying the holding of conferences and seminars on tolerance and expanding their scope globally to enhance dialogue between different religions and philosophies, and presenting practical models of peaceful coexistence, which contributes to confronting extremist ideas and reducing religious and cultural conflicts.
At the end of his speech, Dr Bechari suggested launching specialised training programmes for religious cadres, aiming to qualify clerics and spiritual leaders on the concepts of tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and rejecting religious fanaticism, to ensure the sustainability of these values within societies, stressing that tolerance is not just a moral value, but rather an intellectual and legislative system that ensures the stability and progress of societies.
