The World Muslim Communities Council held an online Ramadan lecture, titled 'Musical Diversity in the Islamic World: A Discussion of The Way Different Maqams are Used With A Focus on Quran Recitation,' presented by Ali Keeler, the Founder of Al Firdaus Ensemble Granada, Spain, within the TWMCC’s Ramadan lectures series.
The founder of Al Firdaus Ensemble in Granada said, 'Various methods exist for reciting the Holy Qur’an, contributing to the cultural influence in Andalusia.'
Ali Keeler explained, 'There is a musical interchange and fusion between Africa and the Mediterranean countries, and music holds significant importance in Islamic heritage and culture, exemplified by the most attractive call to prayer (Adhan).'
Ali pointed out that 'Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, has selected Bilal ibn Rabah as the first Muezzin, who was known for his voice, and music is a developed language with its phrases and sentences, as well as a beginning and an end.'
Furthermore, the founder of Al Firdaus Ensemble in Granada considered that 'The Holy Qur’an should not be simply read like any other book; rather, it should be enriched through recitation and proper intonation.'
Additionally, Keeler explained that 'Egypt has been the homeland of several renowned Qur’an reciters, whose voices have achieved global recognition, such as Sheikh Al-Husary and Sheikh Abdul Basset Abdul Samad.'
