TWMCC organises a virtual lecture entitled “Muslim Communities in Japan”

The World Muslim Communities Council organised on Sunday 25 September 2022 a virtual lecture by Mr.  Kyoichiro Sugimoto, the translator of the Qur'an into Japanese, under the theme 'Muslim Communities in Japan'

Kyoichiro Sugimoto, the translator of the Qur'an into Japanese, said he faced many challenges when translating the Qur'an from Arabic into Japanese, so he worked to understand the meanings to be translated

Sugimoto added that he received an invitation from a Muslim girl to visit Bangladesh in 1996 and went to her home and met her family and was impressed at the time by the hospitality of that Muslim family to him, especially since it was the first time he met them, which prompted him upon his return to Japan to search and read about Islam to learn more about the Islamic religion, pointing out that he found a translated copy of the Qur’an to the Japanese and stopped in front of the words of the Qur’an and was sure that his words were not the words of human beings, but rather the words of a God, so he decided to convert to Islam

The translator of the Qur’an into Japanese explained that in the centre they focus on Islam regardless of nationality and are also working to spread coexistence among all, pointing out that the Japanese now see that Muslims are open-minded, which contributed to changing their opinion of Islam, adding that non-Muslims are invited to Attend the annual Iftar during Ramadan to learn more about Islam

It is noteworthy that the World Muslim Communities Council is an international non-governmental organisation that was established on May 8, 2018, and is based in Abu Dhabi and includes more than 900 Islamic organisations and institutions from 142 countries. It is considered a house of expertise for rationalising organisations and associations operating in Muslim societies, renewing their thinking, improving their performance, and coordinating among them
