Erick Winkel: I Admire Ibn Arabi Life, his Books Helped me Understand Islam

 As part of the daily Ramadan episodes, The World Muslim Communities Council organized, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, a virtual episode in the "Achievers and Contributors" series, during which Erick Winkel, the translator of the Ibn Arabi series, from the United States, spoke via the Council's social media pages. 


 Erick Winkel said that he began reading a book on Sufism and Andalusia in his teenage years, which prompted him to study the biography of Ibn Arabi, and then in 2020 he began translating his books. He added that some of the phrases took him several weeks to understand.


Winkle added that he loved Ibn Arabi, and his books helped him in understanding the Islamic concepts, and made him feel the beauty of the Qur’an, pointing to the need to return to the source of religion, which is the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah, instead of being satisfied with books of fiqh.


 The translator of Ibn Arabi’s books explained that he receives many questions in matters of religion, explaining that Ibn Arabi did not ask us to return to the fiqh books, but rather to converse with Allah Almighty, and to return to the Qur’an and Sunnah.


 Winkle added that the first Ramadan to fast was for 17 hours, in a temperature of 40 degrees, which is difficult if not for the grace of Allah.
