The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) organised a virtual Ramadan lecture titled “The Contributions of Muslim Women During Ramadan,” delivered by Mona Suleiman Konfe, Founding Member of the Union of Muslim Leaders for the Protection of Women and member of the Organisation of Muslim Leaders in Burkina Faso.
In her remarks, Konfe emphasised that addressing the rights of Muslim women during Ramadan is of great importance, given its direct connection to the balance they maintain between family responsibilities, worship, and spiritual life throughout the holy month. She stressed the need for communities to recognise and support this balance.
She explained that the permissibility granted to women to break their fast when a legitimate excuse exists represents a clear manifestation of Islam’s mercy and its recognition of women’s nature, reflecting the flexibility and compassion of Islamic law in accommodating different circumstances.
Konfe further noted that women possess an inherent spiritual right during Ramadan, which requires families and society to provide them with the necessary time and space to engage in worship. She affirmed that the spiritual preparation of women constitutes a foundational pillar in building a cohesive and resilient Muslim society.
She also highlighted that Islam grants women the right to participate in charitable activities and affirms their freedom to give charity from their own wealth without restriction, thereby strengthening their positive presence across various spheres of social contribution.
