HE Dr. Mohamed Bechari, Secretary-General of The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) and Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence, participated in the seminar under the theme “Fatwa and Its Relationship with Egyptians Abroad: Foreign Marriages,” held on 28 January, 2025, as part of the Cairo International Book Fair.

The seminar gathered a distinguished group of scholars and specialists in Islamic jurisprudence to shed light on key issues and challenges faced by Muslim communities abroad, particularly regarding marriage, amidst differing cultures and legal systems between Islamic and Western countries.

Key topics discussed included the importance of marriage documentation in Western societies, the phenomenon of Muslim women marrying non-Muslim men, the issue of sham marriages (white marriages), and custody-related matters.

Dr. Bechari presented a comprehensive academic paper offering practical and realistic solutions to address the jurisprudential and social challenges faced by Muslims living abroad, considering the differences in cultural and legal frameworks between Islamic and Western nations.

In his address, HE Dr. Bechari emphasised five primary areas during the seminar, including developing “Fiqh for Muslim Communities,” harmonising Sharia and local laws, strengthening the role of Islamic institutions, safeguarding the Islamic identity of families and children, and rejecting practices that contradict Islamic principles.
