- 2026-Jan-20
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received today, Monday, 19 January, ministers, grand muftis from various countries, heads of Islamic councils and institutions, and a distinguished group of scholars participating in the 36th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, held in Egypt on 19-20 January, in the presence of Egyptian Minister of Endowments HE Dr Usama Al Azhari.
During the meeting, President El Sisi stressed the need for scholars to play their role in confronting extremism and terrorism, particularly through digital media and social networks, and to elevate religious discourse so that it serves development, construction, security, the protection of nations, and the building of individuals. He emphasised that building the state begins with building the individual and investing in human potential.
He noted that the state’s vision is based on saving religion from becoming a battleground for conflict or being hijacked by extremist movements, while underscoring the importance of caring for preachers and paying attention to mosques so they function as integrated religious, educational, and service institutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, an interactive dialogue took place focusing on moderate thought and continuing to enhance the standing of the Islamic world, as well as the role of Egypt and Al-Azhar. The reception was also attended by HE Dr Mohamed Bechari, Secretary-General of The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC), as part of the participating delegations.
