- 2025-Apr-26
The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) is participating in the 34th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025, through a knowledge and cultural pavilion featuring a range of specialised intellectual publications that reflect the cultural diversity of Muslim communities and contribute to consolidating the concepts of coexistence, citizenship, and cultural belonging.
The pavilion will showcase a selection of new publications, most notably the book "Islam in Russia: Diffusion – Adaptation – Empowerment," which consists of five main chapters, covering: "The spread of Islam in Russia, the historical and modern context of Russian Muslim communities, the development of religious institutions for Russian Muslims, the features of Islam in modern Russia, and the cultural dimension of Islam in Russian society."
TWMCC also showcases a variety of research publications, most notably: "Islamic Culture with Chinese Characteristics: Architecture, Lifestyles, and Education," "Islamic Doctrine in Chinese: Text, Interpretation, and Identity," "Life in Islam and Service to the Nation: The Contribution of Muslims to Administration, Economy, and Social Life in China," "Matriarchal Islam...Societies Centered on Women in Andalusia and Other Countries," "The Role of Women in Islam: Bridges of Localisation in Japan, Korea, and China," "Matriarchal Islam: Matrilineal Lineage in the Indo-Malay World," and "Localising the State and Society for Southeast Asian Muslims."
These publications are part of TWMCC's efforts to document the experiences of Muslim communities worldwide, present successful models of cultural integration and positive inclusion, and promote global awareness of Muslims' civilisational and humanitarian contributions.
As part of the fair's activities, TWMCC is organising a scientific reference seminar entitled "Exploring the Vision of Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah: Jurisprudential Creativity from Foundations to Application," on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 5:00 PM, on the main stage of the exhibition.
The session will be moderated by HE Dr. Khalifa Al Dhaheri, Chancellor of Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities, and will be attended by Prof. Mohand Mechenene, Professor at the Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities; Prof. Yousef Hmito, Professor at the Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities; and Dr. Mohamed Mahjoub Bin Banih, Senior Researcher at the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace.
They will discuss several in-depth intellectual and scientific topics, most notably: exploring the purpose as a jurisprudential tool for understanding reality and applying texts; the relationship between jurisprudential authentication and practical application; a Maqasid-based reading of Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah's tools of renewal; moderate thought and its role in confronting contemporary challenges; and the Emirati model for activating the objectives of Sharia in a diverse society.
The seminar is part of TWMCC's vision to consolidate a contemporary jurisprudential discourse that combines authenticity and openness, and promotes the values of coexistence, moderation, and societal peace.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah is one of the most prominent contemporary scholarly figures in the field of jurisprudence of objectives and cognitive renewal, and has contributed to building a jurisprudential system that accommodates reality and confronts its challenges with a deep spirit of authenticity.
TWMCC's participation in this international cultural event affirms its commitment to its intellectual and humanitarian role in promoting a positive Islamic presence in the global arena through the dissemination of knowledge and presents contemporary intellectual models that highlight the diversity of Muslim societies and the richness of their civilisational experience within a framework of dialogue, integration, and moderation.
