TWMCC Holds ‘Women in Ramadan: Balancing Spirituality, Family, and Society’ Ramadan Online Lecture
- 2025-Apr-08
The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held a Ramadan online lecture, titled ‘Women in Ramadan: Balancing Spirituality, Family, and Society,’ presented by Prof. Adja Maguette, Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, within the TWMCC's lecture series.
Adja Maguette addressed the obligations of Muslims in general, and women in particular, during Ramadan, stressing the importance of fasting the senses, especially refraining from useless speech.
She referred to a study that has shown that women speak three times more than men daily.
Maguette stressed that Ramadan is a golden opportunity to review morals and curb evil, noting that the tongue can either lead a person to Paradise or be the cause of their downfall.
She also stressed the importance of lowering one's gaze and avoiding sinful behaviours, explaining that backbiting and gossiping are inexcusable, unlike eating or drinking unintentionally.
