The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) has arranged a virtual lecture titled "Ramadan.. The Month of Spirituality and Human Communication", delivered by Dr Sheikh Nordine Taouil Chairman of the General Assembly of Muslims in Belgium. This event forms part of the Council’s ongoing lecture series.

Sheikh Nordine Taouil emphasised that the month of Ramadan represents an extraordinary opportunity for transformation across all areas of life for anyone aspiring to better themselves.

He described Ramadan as a sacred period dedicated to strengthening one’s relationship with Allah, offering an ideal spiritual ambience that is seldom replicated in any other month.

Furthermore, the Sheikh highlighted that Ramadan is not only about abstinence but also about self-improvement. He explained that it is a month of fasting and prayer, citing the well-known hadith narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):

"Whoever fasts during Ramadan and prays at night out of faith and in hope of reward, his past sins will be forgiven."

This emphasises that both fasting and the nightly prayers serve as potent means of expiation for sins, and blessings be upon those who are fortunate enough to observe them.

Sheikh Taouil also pointed out that Ramadan provides a unique opportunity to draw closer to God and fortify one’s spiritual bonds.

He urged Muslims to fully utilise this blessed month by seeking to know Allah in the truest sense, maintaining diligence in prayer and other forms of worship, and reflecting on the divine words: "Ramaḍân is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the decisive authority" (Al-Baqarah: 185).

He further reminded his audience of God’s nearness to His servants and His readiness to respond to their supplications, as encapsulated in the verse: "When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one's prayer when they call upon Me" (Al-Baqarah: 186).

Concluding his address, the Sheikh affirmed that Ramadan is a precious opportunity for salvation and for attaining God’s mercy. He encouraged everyone to intensify their supplications, particularly on Laylat al-Qadr which is described as being better than a thousand months and to deeply reflect upon the grandeur of this noble month. In his words, "If people truly understood the goodness inherent in Ramadan, they would wish that the entire year were Ramadan."
