TWMCC Holds "Fraternity in Islam" Online Lecture
- 2024-Oct-23
The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held an online lecture, titled "Fraternity in Islam", presented by Imam Jin Biao, Vice President Islamic Association of Qinghai Province, China, within the Council's series of lectures.
During the lecture, Biao described the concept of brotherhood in Islam as comprising four types: kinship brotherhood, brotherhood in faith, brotherhood for the sake of God, and human brotherhood.
He stressed the significant role that brotherhood plays in Islam, highlighting its mention in numerous Quranic verses that promote maintaining family ties and discourage severing them, alongside the importance of honouring one’s parents.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also emphasised the value of these connections, making kinship brotherhood a crucial aspect of our lives, Biao said.
He further explained that brotherhood in faith signifies that all Muslims, irrespective of their origin or cultural background, are considered brothers and sisters, united by the belief in the oneness of God, as Allah said in the Holy Quran: "The believers, men and women, are Auliya' (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another. Biao noted that Muslims should strive to reinforce this bond.
He also pointed out that brotherhood for the sake of God differs from brotherhood in faith, as it is founded on shared beliefs, along with strong friendships and collaboration to uphold God’s message. He concluded by addressing human brotherhood, emphasising that all humans descend from one father, Adam, and one mother, Eve.
TWMCC is an international non-governmental organisation that functions as a think tank. It supports Muslim community organisations and associations by helping them improve their operations, collaborate effectively, and adopt innovative approaches.
