‘TWMCC Holds Online Ramadan Lecture 'Reality of Coexistence Between Muslims and Religious Followers in Nigeria'

The World Muslim Communities Council held a virtual Ramadan lecture under the theme: 'Reality of coexistence between Muslims and religious followers in Nigeria' presented by Dr. Al Khidr Abdul Baqi Director of the Nigerian Center for Arab Research.


During the lecture, Dr. Al Khidr Abdul Baqi affirmed that Nigeria is one of the largest countries in Africa by population, as it has many different racial, ethnic, and tribal groups, and each group has its own different culture.


He added, 'Muslims mostly live in the north of the country and the southwest, and they are approximately 60% to 65% of the population'.


Dr. Al Khidr Abdul Baqi said, 'In Nigeria, there is peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, especially in the major cities'.


He added, 'Religious leaders have a crucial role in promoting peaceful coexistence and integration efforts in Nigeria'.


He explained that the nature of the political system in Nigeria allows freedom of belief and transition from one religion to another.

He said, 'Moderate leadership among Muslims and Christians helps in promoting peaceful coexistence and preventing any disputes'.


TWMCC is an international non-governmental organisation, and a think tank to help organisations and associations working in Muslim communities, renew their thinking, improve their performance, and coordinate their joint work.
