  • 2023-Dec-25

The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held a virtual lecture titled "Islamic Perspective on Climate Change and Muslim Practices of Environmentalism in Indonesia", by Dr Fachruddin Mangunjaya, Chairman of Centre for Islamic Studies at Universitas Nasional in Indonesia.

During the lecture, Dr Fachruddin Mangunjaya said that the Islamic religion is full of texts that teach us how to be better successors on earth, and that Allah, Almighty, created the heavens and the earth, so we must preserve them.

He added that more than 200 countries have been invited to COP28 to discuss climate challenges and different conditions, stressing the need to find a solution to reduce the temperature by 1.5 degrees at least.

Additionally, he called for raising awareness in Muslim communities to deal with new climatic conditions, especially that we are the last generation who can end the climate change and find solutions to make the planet a suitable place to live, pointing out that there are more than 1.5 million projects to save this planet.

TWMCC is an international non-governmental organisation, and a think tank for organisations and associations operating in Muslim communities, to renew their thinking, improve their performance, and coordinate their joint work.
