The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) strongly condemned the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran by extremists in Denmark, denouncing permitting to carry out acts that spread hate speech and support extremism, and disrespect for religious and social values.

The Council in its statement rejected the use of freedom of expression as justification for such heinous acts that aim to destabilise security and stability and contradict human and moral values and principles, noting that hate speech and extremism contradict international efforts to spread the values of tolerance, coexistence and peace between peoples.

Furthermore, TWMCC stressed the need to respect religious symbols and avoid incitement and hate speech. The Council affirmed the need to work together to uphold the universal principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. TWMCC also emphasised that these principles should be promoted and implemented to achieve stability and social peace.
