The World Muslim Communities Council organised a virtual lecture entitled 'Islamic Law and International Law in Conflict Resolution' presented by Dr. Emilia Justyna Powell, Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, USA, as part of the Ramadan Lecture Series.

Dr. Emilia Justyna Powell, Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, USA, said that she studied law in Europe and United States and obtained a PhD, and that the summary of her study was about civil law and legal systems and their impact on the role of states in conflict resolution.

Dr. Emilia added that she found that many people are confused between the Islamic faith and Islamic law.

The Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, USA, explained that the deeper she reads, the more she realises that she has the desire to travel and learn more about Islamic laws.

Dr. Emilia indicated that she had researched 200 constitutions about the word of Allah and the condition of obligating the ruler to be a Muslim, stressing that her book is not a general statement about Islamic legal culture and that she is not a scholar of Islamic law.

The Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, USA said that her interest is in how law proceeds to resolve disputes in a peaceful way, stressing that we must understand the general relations between religion and international law.
