General Director of UAE Council for Fatwa: Governance Prevents a Person from Foolishness, Which is What Fasting Does to The Fasting Person

  • 2023-Apr-26

On Tuesday, 18 April 2023, The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) organised a virtual lecture by HE Dr Omar Habtoor Al Darei, General Director of UAE Council for Fatwa, as part of a series of Ramadan lectures under the title 'Governance of Religious Institutions'

At the outset, HE Dr Omar Habtoor Al Darei, General Director of UAE Council for Fatwa, thanked TWMCC for its efforts in communication between religious institutions and individuals all over the world

Al Darei said that governance is not alien to the month of Ramadan, as it meets the purposes of fasting, such as patience, abandonment, and taking responsibility, stressing that governance always prevents a person from foolishness, which is what fasting does to the fasting person

The General Director of UAE Council for Fatwa added that in the era of AI and the speed of information, it would be very natural to raise such topics, explaining that the governance of legitimate discourse institutions calls for necessity because discourse, whether legitimate or religious, is a limitless matter

Al Darei stressed that the issue of governance requires us to realistically address the challenges and successes, especially as we are facing torrents of preachers, speeches, sermons, fatwas, practical and virtual reality

The General Director of UAE Council for Fatwa said that religious and legal institutions in many countries often have a charitable and voluntary nature, and they also have a pivotal role in human life, as they are the largest actor and influencer in societies, and their influence exceeds the capabilities of countries

TWMCC is an international non-governmental organisation, established on 8 May 2018 in Abu Dhabi. It includes more than 900 Islamic organisations and institutions from 142 countries. It is a think tank to help organisations and associations operating in Muslim communities, renew their thinking, improve their performance, and coordinate its joint work
