Professor Fawzia Al-Ashmawis said that fasting and zakat are two basic pillars of Islam, which are duties that have a significant role in building the Muslim community, as fasting establishes a clean society that is not only healthy, but far from idle talk and unpleasant speech, while Zakat is tools adopted by Islam in reducing social disparities to build a friendly society. She added: "Fasting is a great opportunity to read the Qur’an with thoughtfulness and wisdom, to get acquainted with the purposes of Islam." Dr. Al-Ashmawy enumerated some of the lessons and sermons learned from fasting, such as the health and religious advantages. Religiously, fasting teaches us to avoid confusion and disgraceful behavior. Health, it relaxes our organs. She also pointed out the advantages of Zakat in Ramadan, such as generosity, as the Messenger (PBUH) was the most generous in Ramadan. "Smile is one of giving types," she said, indicating that zakat is not limited to a specific group, but rather covers all groups and ages. Dr. Fawzia Al-Ashmawi confirmed that zakat is estimated at two and a half percent, stressing that zakat is due on the money that we save and not spend annually. She suggested that the money we are entrusted is the money of Allah, which we have to give to the poor, needy, debtors, and wayfarer. It is noteworthy that the World Muslim Communities Council is an international non-governmental organization, headquartered in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi.
