The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) organised an online lecture titled "Muslim Women in Europe in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges," delivered by Liya Makhmutova, President of the Muslim Women's Union of the Baltic States (Estonia).

The session explored the growing impact of AI on women’s empowerment, with a particular focus on education.

During the lecture, Makhmutova emphasized that AI has become a valuable resource for women, supporting a wide range of professional and educational initiatives. She described AI as a natural evolution of the digital landscape, developing progressively to meet emerging societal needs.

She noted that AI should be viewed as a neutral tool whose benefits and challenges are determined by the intentions, objectives, and methods of its users. Drawing on practical examples, she highlighted how AI technologies can transform audio lectures into written content, improving access to educational materials and enhancing learning opportunities.

Makhmutova also discussed the integration of educational chatbots designed to facilitate self-directed learning by providing students with structured, step-by-step guidance. In addition, she shed light on the growing role of AI agents, which offer increased autonomy in executing tasks and can be applied across education, administration, and other operational fields.

Underscoring the broader societal value of AI, she described it as an effective means of promoting knowledge, raising awareness, and supporting efforts to strengthen faith-based and ethical values.

Concluding the session, Makhmutova stressed the importance of ensuring that AI technologies are developed and utilized in accordance with religious principles, ethical standards, and humanitarian values, enabling their responsible use for the benefit of individuals and communities alike.
