TWMCC Holds “ The Architectural Identity of Mosques in Indonesia“ Ramadan Online Lecture

As part of the council’s Ramadan lecture series, The World Muslim Communities Council  (TWMCC) organized a virtual lecture titled “The Architectural Identity of Mosques in Indonesia,” delivered by Dr. Tutin Ariyanti, Associate Professor of Architectural History and Theory, Housing Culture Research Group, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia,


In her lecture, she addressed the conditions of Muslims and Islam in Asia, particularly in Indonesia.


She noted that Islam began to spread in Asia during the 13th century through trade, explaining that the Demak Mosque is considered one of the oldest mosques in East Asia and a prominent landmark in the area.


She added that Indonesians place great importance on accurately orienting mosques toward the Qibla (Mecca), highlighting that mosques in Indonesia are distinguished by unique architectural styles.


She also explained that the Sultanate Mosque reflects Islamic values through its distinctive architectural design.


Furthermore, she stated that Muslim scholars historically focused on how to practice the tolerant teachings of Islam.


In conclusion, she emphasized that the mosque in Indonesia represents the Muslim community and is viewed as part of the respected authority of the sultanate within muslim society.
