As part of its Ramadan lecture series, The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held an online lecture, “Empowering Women in Muslim Communities through International Opportunities and Intensive Courses.” The session was delivered by Dr Widade Naibi, Director of the Ibn Battuta African Institute, and focused on the vital role of women’s empowerment in the Islamic world.

In her remarks, Dr. Naibi addressed the key challenges facing women in Muslim societies, emphasizing that social marginalization remains one of the most pressing issues confronting women today.

She explained that promoting women’s empowerment contributes to a deeper and more accurate understanding of Islam, while enabling women to uphold their religious, cultural, and social values.

Dr. Naibi also urged Muslim families to prioritize positive and supportive upbringing for girls from an early age by providing access to education and encouraging confidence, ambition, and optimism.

She noted that expanding educational opportunities and scholarship programs for girls plays a significant role in fostering positive societal change and inspires young women to adopt constructive behaviors observed in other successful communities.

Additionally, she highlighted the importance of sustained religious guidance during girls’ educational journeys, noting that it enhances awareness, knowledge, and personal development.

Dr. Naibi further stressed that working women serve as influential role models, motivating other girls to pursue education and professional advancement.

Concluding her lecture, she underscored the transformative impact of women’s education, stating that educated women, particularly those who study abroad, can drive development upon returning to their home countries and contribute meaningfully to social progress and national advancement.
