- 2025-Nov-25
The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held an online lecture, titled "Muslims in the United Kingdom: Building Identity and Enhancing Integration," presented by Imam Sheikh Muhammad Ismail, Secretary-General of the Association of British Scholars, within the Council's series of lectures.
During the lecture, Ismail affirmed that the Muslim community in Britain has a long-standing history and is an integral part of the national fabric, noting that it actively contributes to the country’s prosperity and serves society through its commitment to shared values, rights, and responsibilities.
He added that the UK stands as a model of freedoms and the primacy of democracy, which has enabled Muslims to attain senior positions across various sectors, particularly in the armed forces. He also pointed out that there are 3 million Muslims in Britain, more than 2,000 mosques, and nearly 200 Islamic schools that are partially or fully supported by the government, in addition to around 20 religious institutes dedicated to training imams and providing them with support.
Ismail outlined the main duties of imams, explaining that they include raising religious and community awareness, enhancing joint action—especially in times of crisis—and strengthening the values of unity and mutual understanding within society.
Concluding, he expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the TWMCC for this valuable initiative, stressing that such lectures help promote religious harmony and build bridges of friendship among different communities.
