TWMCC Holds ‘The Role of Muslim Women during Ramadan’ Ramadan Online Lecture
- 2025-Mar-24
The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held a Ramadan online lecture, titled ‘The Role of Muslim Women during Ramadan’ presented by Mona Sulaiman Konfi, Founding Member of the Muslim Leaders’ Union for Women’s Protection, and Member of the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB), within the Council's series of lectures.
Mona Sulaiman Konfi highlighted the rights and duties of women during Ramadan, emphasising that their role is not limited to taking care of the family, but also includes their right to worship, seek knowledge, and participate in charitable works.
Konfi explained that Islam does not differentiate between men and women in the rewards of worship, citing the Almighty's words: 'So for this let the competitors compete,' and the saying of the Prophet (PBUH): 'He who fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from God will have his past sins forgiven,' as these virtues include both genders without discrimination.
She emphasised that seeking knowledge is an obligation for every Muslim male and female, noting that Ramadan is an opportunity to enhance religious knowledge, attend scientific councils, and learn about religion, which will help women strengthen their fasting and deepen their understanding of the teachings of Islam.
She also emphasised the importance of women's role in charitable and community work, stressing that women have the right to give charity with their money without being forbidden by anyone, citing the generosity of Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).
Konfi also addressed a woman's right to i'tikaf if she believes she is safe, and her right to psychological and physical rest, noting that Islam allows her to break her fast in cases of legitimate excuse, and relieves her of some costs in recognition of her nature and circumstances.
She emphasised that women's rights in Ramadan are an extension of their rights in Islam, calling on women to balance between worship and family duties, and to rearrange priorities during the holy month.
