- 2025-Mar-17
The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held a Ramadan online lecture, titled "Beneficence.. A Fundamental Pillar in Building Societies," presented by Dr. Husam Halawani, Head of the center for Human Relations and Security, within the Council's series of lectures.
During the lecture, Halawani emphasised the importance of charity and benevolence in building societies, citing the Quranic verse: “O believers! Donate from what We have provided for you before the arrival of a Day when there will be no bargaining,” and the Hadith of the Prophet (PBUH): “A man who gives charity and conceals it so that his left hand does not know what his right hand is giving.”
He pointed out that giving charity and spending on good causes is one of the greatest acts of devotion to Allah, reflecting sincere faith. This is supported by the Prophet (PBUH)'s Hadith: “Charity is proof of faith.” He also noted that the Prophet (PBUH) was the most generous of people, and his generosity increased during Ramadan when good deeds are multiplied and blessings abound.
He also touched upon the blessing of security, emphasising that it is one of the greatest gifts from Allah, as mentioned in the Quranic verse: “Let them worship the Lord of this ˹Sacred˺ House, Who has fed them against hunger and made them secure against fear.”
He explained that security, in all its forms—whether food, psychological, or social security—is the foundation of thriving communities, and the way to show gratitude for these blessings is by preserving and strengthening them.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of intellectual and academic security in community building, noting that knowledge is a cornerstone of economic advancement. It safeguards nations from harmful ideologies and deviant calls that threaten their stability.
He concluded the lecture by reaffirming that benevolence, security, and knowledge are the fundamental pillars for building and advancing communities.
