- 2025-Jan-25
The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) is participating in the 56th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair, organised by the General Egyptian Book Organization (GEBO), taking place from January 23 to February 5, 2025, under the theme “Read... In the Beginning Was the Word.”
Throughout the exhibition, the TWMCC’s pavilion showcases a range of English-language publications that enrich readers' minds, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote shared human values, foster principles of moderation, tolerance, dialogue, and coexistence with other religions and cultures.
Among the highlighted publications are 'Southeast Asian Islam Architecture, Arts and New Cultures,' 'Southeast Asian Islam: Indigenized Theology and Jurisprudence,' and 'Bridges of Indigenization in Japan, Korea, and China.' These works explore how mosque architecture in Southeast Asia has been influenced by regional cultures and traditions, as well as the rapid development of Islamic architecture in the area.
The publications also shed light on the history of Islam in Southeast Asia, including Islamic customs and jurisprudence in Indonesia, and how a balanced and inclusive representation of Islam in China is being advanced through literature and media. Additionally, they highlight the growing role of women in Muslim societies, whether through education, marriage, migration, or other pathways.
The Council also presents 'Matriarchal Islam: Muslim Women’s Leadership in Africa' and 'The indigenization of state and society for Southeast Asian Muslims,' which examine how maternal practices coexist with Islamic principles through examples from Northern Mozambique and Northern Ghana. These works further delve into how Muslim communities engage with states and societies, and how governance and societal conditions support the integration of Muslim populations in Southeast Asia.
Through its publications at the Cairo International Book Fair 2025, TWMCC aims to enrich readers knowledge, continue its mission of fostering shared human values, and enhance dialogue and mutual understanding among religions and cultures.
