TWMCC Congratulates Mohamed Al Bayoumi on Appointment as Secretary-General of Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs
- 2024-Nov-11
HE Dr Mohamed Bechari, Secretary-General of The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC), conveyed the congratulations of HE Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, TWMCC Chairman, to Dr Mohamed Abdul Rahim Mohamed Mohamed Al Bayoumi on his new role as Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
HE Dr Bechari highlighted that the trust placed in Dr Al Bayoumi by HE Dr Usama Al Azhary, Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf, reflects values of competence and wisdom to further guide the institution toward broader goals in a time of increasing challenges that require insightful leadership.
He noted that the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs carries significant responsibilities that extend beyond local oversight, fostering understanding and collaboration worldwide to counter extremist ideologies and hatred.
In this regard, HE Dr Al Azhary’s vision is centered on four main pillars:
Firstly, combatting all forms of intellectual extremism by promoting values of moderation and tolerance, thereby positioning imams and preachers as leaders of enlightenment and unity, calling for unity and communal cohesion.
Secondly, countering negative social phenomena and dealing with perverted practices such as addiction, bullying, harassment, and suicide, through religious discourse that reinforces moral values essential for community safety and integrity.
Thirdly, rebuilding national identity and fostering a strong sense of belonging to history and culture on solid religion bases, encouraging education, and building trust in institutions. This aims to create informed citizens who contribute positively to their nation while resisting despair and hopelessness.
Fourthly, transforming mosques into centers of knowledge and creativity where youth can find inspiration and develop their curiosity with knowledge, thus contributing to societal advancement. Mosques shall serve as sources of intellectual and spiritual growth, transcending their traditional functions to embrace all elements of progress and comprehensive advancement.
These pillars align with TWMCC’s mission and objectives since its founding. Under HE Dr Al Nuaimi’s leadership, the Council reaffirms its full support for Dr Al Bayoumi’s efforts as he works towards shared goals, enhancing the role of Islamic institutions, and exemplifies innovation and development in Islamic efforts.
TWMCC is an international non-governmental organisation that functions as a think tank. It supports Muslim community organisations and associations by helping them improve their operations, collaborate effectively, and adopt innovative approaches.
