  • 2024-Sep-23

The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held an online lecture, titled “Education,” presented by Professor Dr Shahjahan Khan, Vice Chancellor of the Asian University of Bangladesh, within the Council's series of lectures.

Professor Shahjahan Khan discussed the importance of education and its pivotal role in various aspects of life. He stressed that education began at the beginning of human existence informally, through the oral transmission of knowledge between generations, explaining that applied learning, through experience, is the method by which individuals acquired their life skills.

Professor Khan pointed out that mental and intellectual abilities are an essential part of the educational journey, as they enable a person to know the difference between right and wrong. He explained that the first word revealed in the Holy Quran was “Read”, which highlights the priority that Islam gave to learning and knowledge, stressing that the Holy Quran emphasised the importance of knowledge as one of the most important foundations of education, and that seeking it is a duty for Muslims.

He explained that possessing knowledge gives power, pointing out that Muslims in the past were pioneers in science and contributed to the establishment of modern technology such as the algorithms developed by the Muslim scholar Al-Khwarizmi.

Professor Khan called on Muslims to be leaders in the innovation and entrepreneurship fields, not just followers, stressing the need to focus on producing leaders who will lead future technological development.

TWMCC is an international non-governmental organisation that functions as a think tank. It supports Muslim community organisations and associations by helping them improve their operations, collaborate effectively, and adopt innovative approaches.
