The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held an online lecture, titled "Muslim Women's Rights in Europe", presented by Liya Makhmutova, President of Union of Muslim Women of Baltic States, within the Council's series of lectures.

During the lecture, Makhmutova discussed Muslim women's conditions in Europe, noting that the European Constitution ensures equal rights for all citizens and residents in areas such as education and employment, with only minor exceptions for citizens, such as the right to vote in elections.

However, she noted that Muslim women in Europe face discrimination, as the media often portrays them as uneducated. Additionally, many Muslims in Europe work in the private sector rather than the public or political spheres due to fears of discrimination or religious rulings that discourage political involvement.

To address these issues, Makhmutova encouraged Muslim women to engage more with European society as a means of improving their conditions. She also mentioned that the press is open to receiving articles from Muslim women to highlight their issues.

In terms of protecting the legal rights of Muslim women in marriage, she explained that a project has been initiated to create a written agreement between spouses before marriage. This agreement, which is documented with the government, aims to safeguard women's rights.

TWMCC is an international non-governmental organisation that functions as a think tank. It supports Muslim community organisations and associations by helping them improve their operations, collaborate effectively, and adopt innovative approaches.
